Creative workshops

After applying through UCAS, all suitable candidates are invited to attend a creative workshop. You'll meet some of our awesome tutors and your future classmates, while we get the chance to meet you and see how you work in a team.

What to expect

  • Team exercise
Working in the creative industries is a team sport. We want to see how you work with your team to a creative brief, respond to feedback and present ideas back to the group. The task is based on projects development in real studios.

  • Portfolio review (BA/MArt applicants)
In a small groups, you'll talk a tutor through your portfolio for 5-10 minutes so we can understand how you work. It's quite informal but your chance to show off your creative skills and the work you're most proud of.

  • 10-minute technical breakdown (BSc/MSci applicants)
A short group discussion based around the effects, mechanics or animation in your favourite film/game/TV series. We suggest you put your ideas in slides with images. We're really interested in how you think about things and your passions.

  • Get in the running for a scholarship (BA/MArt applicants only)
Every portfolio we see is considered for a scholarship. Our Admissions Team will let you know after your workshop if your portfolio has made the longlist.

Additional information

We run regular workshops from January through to May, so you won’t miss out! Our Admissions Team will invite you by email after you apply and the workshops are open. If you can’t make it to your allocated date, just let us know!

We know that for some, the cost of attending our admissions workshops can be a worry.

If you are a UK-based student for fee purposes, you might be eligible for us to cover the cost of your attendance at a creative workshop through a travel bursary.

Download our applicant guide to the 10-minute technical breakdown.

We encourage you to attend an in-person creative workshop if possible. Our experience is it's the best way for you to discuss your work with us and get a real feel of what it is like to study at Escape Studios. If affordability is an issue, we offer travel bursaries for applicants who meet certain criteria.

However, we recognise that there are reasons why some applicants cannot attend in-person. If this is the case for you, we are running some online creative workshops. Invitations are sent to applicants by our Admissions Team.
