Escape Studios launches course with Manga Artist Elena Vitagliano
Escape Studios is proud to be working with award-winning Manga Artist and Storyteller, Elena Vitagliano to create a new evening – online short course, Mastering Manga Storytelling: Characters, Pages and Narrative Flow.
Designed for aspiring Writers, Artists and Visual Storytellers, this eight-week course will run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting from 24th March 2026.
Elena will focus on teaching story logic and emotional engagement, exploring character creation, story structure, panel layout and page flow. By the time you complete the course, you’ll be able to demonstrate a full understanding of manga narrative flow evidenced by a final project, and have the skills to build memorable characters, construct clear storyboards (nemu), and direct professional manga sequences with confidence.
In 2018, Elena won the Silent Manga Audition Grand Prix with The Cruelest Rule, becoming the first European woman to receive the award. In 2023, she became the first European Artist to publish a manga one-shot on Shonen Jump Plus with Miriam of the Skulls, now available in English on Manga Plus.
Her work spans manga publishing, illustration, and narrative development, including projects for institutions such as the Science Museum in London and story work for international comic productions.
She brings experience teaching manga storytelling in academic and cultural settings and is currently developing new projects for both European and Japanese markets.
Simon Fenton, Deputy Principal at Escape Studios comments:
