RASCAL Studio Visits Escape
This November, we welcomed VFX professionals from RASCAL Studio to our campus for a student talk exploring the workings of a multi-award winning studio. Director of Production, Matt Towell and Head of 2D/ VFX Supervisor, Chris Tobin sat down with our Talent Development Manager, Will Hughes to provide some behind-the-scenes insights and answer student questions.
RASCAL is an artist-led creative studio based in London and Stockholm, specialising in Colour, VFX, Sound Design and Music. Projects they have worked on include music videos of Charli xcx and Ed Sheeran, and campaigns for Amazon Business and Xbox, to name just a few.
After covering areas including character design, compositing and working to an agency brief, we got to take a deeper dive into some exciting projects including the making of a fun feline character for the 2025 Boots Christmas campaign, and recreating legendary football player Pele using AI and CGI for Pepsi. We even got to investigate what happens when VFX and physics collide in a thrilling project for Formula E which involved using a real skydiver to capture all-important details for the final result.
There were so many questions from our student audience that Matt and Chris even stuck around after wrapping up to field the last few! On working with the next generation of VFX Artists, Matt shared:
“Everyone at RASCAL started out as a student in some form, so we feel a real responsibility to pass that experience forward. We love connecting with the next generation - to inspire them, to offer honest guidance, and to help demystify the world of post-production. People are at the core of what we do, and it’s their creativity that excites us. If we can give students the chance to ask questions and understand the industry a little better, we hope it helps them take confident steps in their own careers.”
A huge thank you to Matt, Chris and the team at RASCAL - we can’t wait to see what you do next!
