What happens at the graduation ceremony?

It is a traditional graduation ceremony. Your name will be announced (to a big round of applause of course) and you will walk across the stage and shake hands with our principal which will officially mark you becoming a graduate of Escape Studios.

The focus will be on recognising everyone’s achievements and enjoying the moment with students, tutors and your family/friends. It’s a chance to celebrate all the hard work and milestones together. There is an optional drinks reception (1 hour) following the ceremony for graduates and guests.

How long will the ceremony last?

The ceremony typically lasts around 1.5 hours, including speeches, awards, and photo opportunities.

Can I arrive late?

No. Graduates that miss the graduate rehearsal (12:30pm) will not be able to take part in the ceremony. The doors open for gowning at 10:30am so please give yourself plenty of time to get to the venue, collect your gown and be prepared for the day.

How can I make sure my name is pronounced correctly?

We’ll contact you to ask for the phonetic pronunciation of your name so please make sure you respond to this.

Graduate information

What time should graduates arrive?

Graduates should arrive by 11:30am for gown collection and rehearsal. Doors open at 10:30am and we encourage you come early, collect your gowns and make the most of the day. Once you’ve collected your gown you can leave the venue (to take photos or grab something to eat) and need to be back at 12:15pm for the graduate rehearsal.

What should I wear?

Graduates are expected to wear academic gowns, which can be booked via the Marston Events website. Smart attire is recommended underneath.

Will I receive my certificate at the event?

No, certificates are printed by the University of Kent and Coventry University and sent to us as a batch, the exact date of this is decided by the universities and is therefore out of our control. However, as soon as we receive them, Student Services will be in touch to confirm the address you would like your certificate delivered to you.

What colour is my gown?

The colour depends on the award you will be receiving. Your degree will be validated by either University of Kent or Coventry University and your gown will correspond to this. Please email graduation@escapestudios.ac.uk if you would like to confirm the specific colour of your gown.

Photography

Will there be professional photography?

Yes, professional photography is supplied by Marston Events, and you can review/choose their photography packages on the Marston Events website. We recommend you pre-order your graduation portrait photography and make your special day that bit easier.

Can I take my own photos or videos?

Absolutely! Personal photography is encouraged, but please be respectful during the ceremony.

Accessibility and facilities

Is the venue accessible for people with disabilities?

Yes, the venue is fully accessible. If you or your guests require assistance, please contact us in advance, graduation@escapestudios.ac.uk.

Will there be refreshments?

We have a 1-hour drinks reception following the ceremony at the Indigo O2. The bar will also be open before and after the ceremony for drinks. You can bring an empty water bottle to the venue and there will be water available throughout the event. There are also lots of restaurants in the O2 if you want to book somewhere for before/after the ceremony.

Will there be a cloakroom?

Yes. You can use the cloakroom free of charge. Please do not bring large bags or luggage to the ceremony. You will need to leave your belongings (coat/bag) in the cloakroom or with relatives as you cannot take these to the seats with you.
